I want to say I remember when each of our children started walking, but I don’t (#momoftheyear). I have no idea. I couldn’t even guess where we were or what day it was. But I know that they did take those first steps at some point. What was once awkward and unpredictable has developed into second nature. Now our children are running, and jumping, and playing soccer (kind of). Their small steps at the beginning are now overlooked by something greater.
I am writing this blog to document our first steps towards adoption. I confess, it feels awkward and a bit unpredictable. As a Type A person, I like there to be some sort of order before I put myself out there. Not today though. We want to invite you on the journey with us. The good, the bad, and the unknown. In January, Caleb and I began filling out preliminary paperwork for adoption. Nine people we love and trust filled out reference forms vouching for us as a family. In February we attended an Orientation Conference with Christian Homes and Family Services.
Currently, we are waist deep in paperwork, continuing to take steps toward the goal. Caleb and I have grown to appreciate the process. It is necessary and God willing, each step is leading towards something beautiful. Our family eagerly awaits the day when our small steps in the adoption process will be overlooked by something greater: bringing a child home to be a part of our family.
I’m going to post our journey here. Please pray for us. Pray that the Lord would bring exactly who is supposed to join our family and that we would see Him clearly in the process. Charlotte really wants a sister, but as she prayed yesterday, “God, you know the future so whatever you have for us is good.”
We hope that by joining us on the road ahead, you are encouraged and empowered to take whatever first steps God is calling you towards today.
